How Rich Are You? Emotionally.
“Emotional Intelligence” or Emotional Quotient (EQ) refers to the ability to acknowledge our own feelings and those around us, in an attempt to motivate ourselves or others, and for managing emotions well in ourselves and in our relationships.
The key elements of EQ include self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management.
Self-awareness is important as it enables us to be clear about what we feel and what we want. It tells and reminds us that we are either in our desired state already, or we have not. By knowing where we stand, we know how to move on from there.
Self-management comes with self-awareness. In order to effectively manage our own emotions and feelings, we got to first, be able to identify them. By taking charge of our emotions, we would be less susceptible to external influences.
Social awareness and relationship management are all about being able to be recognize and acknowledge the feelings of others, to be a good listener, be tactful and being able to see people, the way they want to be seen as and to nurture good relationships through effective communications, negotiation and conflict resolution skills. In order to get what we want in life, we must help others to get what they want first. Seek for win-win situations and mutually beneficial relationships.
In our day and age, IQ may no longer be of paramount importance as compared to in the past. Many people who are book-smart but lack EQ may just end up working for people who have lower IQs than them but who excel in EQ skills. EQ is definitely one area of wealth worth exploring into.

If only everyone has high EQ, this world would be such a beatiful place.
