Self-Awareness and Self-Management
Having a high level of self-awareness, allows you to identify accurately your own emotions and state of mind. You would ask yourself, “What is it that causes me to feel this way and what can I go about doing to change my current state of mood to the desired one.” In doing so, you would then put yourself in a better position, to make more sound and clear decisions. This would then give rise to self-management, whereby you are in good control of your own feelings and thoughts. The importance of this cannot be over emphasized. If we do not allow ourselves to take charge of our emotions, there would be people out down who will!
Never ever allow others or events to manipulate our emotions. People are as happy as they make up their mind to be. You got to start changing your way of thinking. It is not the stress that kills us; it is our reaction to it. What happens is not as important to as how you react to what happens. I haven’t failed; I’ve SUCCEEDED in finding 1000 different ways that doesn’t works. Whether you think you can or can’t, you would be RIGHT either way. No one can make you feel inferior, without YOUR consent.
Think positively and practically. An optimist makes opportunities out of difficulties; a pessimist makes difficulties out of opportunities. However, while it is good to be an optimist, be clear about what you are doing each time. If you keep doing the same things the same way all over again and again, no matter how hard you try, you will still get the SAME results! By telling yourself, “I can do it! I can do it!” each time, would still never get you to your destination. You got to start opening new doors to arrive at different possible outcomes. In other words, you must have the right attitude, combined with the RIGHT ACTIONS. Be a thinking optimist that takes calculated risk. (more would be covered in “Mental Wealth” category)
Personally, I am neither an optimist nor pessimist. I am a self-motivated realist. For the pessimist, if you can’t turn yourself into an optimist, at least try to be a realist! By being a realist, I am someone who doesn’t see the glass as half full or half empty. I see what’s EXACTLY in the glass. I would never try to make a bad situation seem better than it is but I will also never sabotage any good things that I have going on. By being brutally honest in my assessments of situations, it has always enabled me to cope with them very well.
All in all, different people succeed with different approach. One size doesn’t and never will fit all. Do work around with some of the suggested approach that I’ve mentioned, to see how much more you could get out of your life! Adopt the approach that fits you the most.
(not pessimism of course…. I haven’t heard of anyone who succeeds with a pessimistic attitude. If you do, hit me a reply to tell me how u manage to do that, which would be really funny. I could be expecting that you’ll probably be telling me, “I always think that I can’t do it, I will always think of failing…. BUT…. it turns out that I always succeed! My secret of success is telling myself that I will always fail in what I do”- How ridiculous, isn’t it?)
